Plank was awarded with the prestigious XXII Compasso d’Oro ADI for the MYTO cantilever chair which was developed in collaboration with German Industrial Designer Konstantin Grcic and the Chemical Company BASF. In its statement, the jury emphasized in particular the innovative prowess shown by the company and its designer in use of plastic to take on a contemporary reinterpretation of such “a design icon, the cantilever chair “ in “the record time of just one year”. The prize is the first highlight in a long series of awards. MYTO has already won numerous international prizes and is part of important museum collections such as the MoMA in New York, the Design Museum in London and the Deutsches Museum in Munich.
Moreover, at the awards ceremony in Rome Plank and Grcic received an “Honorable Mention” (Menzione d’Onore) for MONZA, an elegant wooden chair with colored armrests made of plastic. The armchair connects the materials wood and plastic injection moulding and hence the artisan roots of Plank with the characteristics of modern industrial design.
The award ceremony took place on July 12th at the Pelanda al Testaccio branch of the “MACRO” in Rome, where the awarded products will be displayed until September 25th 2011.
