MIURA table linking device

The minimal and elegant square-topped MIURA table by Konstantin Grcic provides a sophisticated solution for spaces requiring a flexible furniture system that can be rearranged easily. Chairs or stools can be positioned around single tables or placed along the edges of tables connected in rows of any length for more formal events.

The MIURA table features a tripod base that helps the top to remain steady, even on irregular floors. This makes it suitable for use indoors or outdoors on a variety of different surfaces. From dinner on the terrace at home to important meetings at the office, the possibility to use single or multiple tables means parties of any size can be accommodated.

Plank recently provided MIURA tables for the press room of the President of the provincial government of South Tyrol, where the company is based. The tables are regularly arranged in rows and Plank was able to source a discreet mechanism that fixes the table tops together. The device also ensures the tops are level and at an even height, resulting in a single seamless surface.

The MIURA table’s other practical qualities include its folding top, which can be flipped up to make storage easier. Its powder-coated metal base supports a surface made from metal, MDF or HPL, which is available in a range of shapes and sizes, but for scenarios where adaptability is vital, the square-topped version offers an optimal solution.

PLANK, technical sponsor at Munich Creative Business Week

This year again, Plank is official sponsor of the Munich Creative Business Week (21.02.-01.03.2015), a series of events sensitizing people for design and to highlight its relevance to society, culture and the economy.

MONZA armchair attachment device

The MONZA armchair is a popular choice for seminar and conference rooms because of its elegant ergonomic design and the possibility to stack the chairs when not in use. Especially for this scenario, its designer Konstantin Grcic together with Plank also developed a simple product for connecting the chairs in rows while simultaneously providing convenient storage.

The connector slots into the gap between the seats and grips the cylindrical legs to ensure even spacing between the chairs without requiring any permanent fixings. Its recessed central section provides space for pens, notepads or other personal items and enables the trays to be stacked to make them easier to store.

The linking device is made from thermoformed ABS plastic. It is available in black as a standard optional accessory to accompany the chairs.

For a special one-off project, Plank adapted the connectors so seats could be fixed in a circular formation, demonstrating the company’s dedication to fulfilling customers’ specific requirements.

The product offers a low-tech and visually unobtrusive solution to a common problem in the contract sector, which enhances the practicality and versatility of the MONZA armchair.

The MONZA table is one of Plank’s most versatile and customisable solutions for use in residential, hospitality, and office environments. It was designed by Konstantin Grcic to accompany the MONZA chair and armchair and features the same modern aesthetic, combining two materials to create a visual contrast that emphasises its functionality.

The MONZA table comprises solid ash or extruded aluminium legs that are fixed to surfaces made from extremely resistant high-pressure laminate in black or white finishes. An innovative die-cast aluminium joint that connects the legs to the table top enables surfaces of varying dimensions to be specified without needing to alter this standardised component. Any type of leg can also be fitted to the joint and removed easily to help make the product suitable for flat-pack shipping.

Plank has worked with architects and designers on several projects that involved customising the MONZA table to meet specific functional and aesthetic requirements. For the dining hall of a girls’ boarding school in Merano, Italy, the table was adapted to incorporate storage beneath the table top and the aluminium legs were powder coated to match the coloured backs of the accompanying MONZA chairs. The canteen of a financial services provider in Liechtenstein was also recently furnished with MONZA armchairs and specially produced elongated versions of the MONZA table that make optimal use of the available space.

Available in round, square or rectangular variations that can be fully customised, the MONZA table is a flexible item suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Its simple, elegant form complements the MONZA chair and other contemporary furniture designs, making it a practical and stylish solution for a wide range of project applications.

2014 Plank Highlights

It’s been a busy and exciting 2014 at Plank that’s seen us expand our collection of contemporary furniture and collaborate with some of the world’s leading architects and designers on inspirational projects from Miami to the Maldives.

At the Milan furniture fair we launched extra sizes of Konstantin Grcic’s popular MIURA table and introduced new colours for the MIURA stool. Plank’s furniture also featured in two exhibitions at the Triennale di Milano museum during design week. Other events we’ve contributed to in the past twelve months included Konstantin Grcic’s solo show at the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein and an exhibition at the Foire de Paris trade fair that explored innovation in contemporary chair manufacture.

Our products were specified for projects by several top global architects in 2014: the MIURA stool was used in the spectacular Dongdaemun Design Plaza by Zaha Hadid Architects, and two recently completed buildings in Miami by Herzog & de Meuron were furnished with MONZA armchairs and MYTO chairs. We’ve also enjoyed working with interior designers to supply furniture for a range of outstanding corporate, retail and hospitality projects last year, including the Facebook headquarters in California, Beirut’s Stereokitchen restaurant, and new facilities for brands including BMW, Hugo Boss, Carlsberg and Skoda.

Finally, we’re delighted that the Danish Design Museum has included the MONZA armchair in its permanent collection and it was fun to see American actor Ashton Kutcher perched on the MYTO chair in a promotional campaign for electronics brand Lenovo.

We thank all our customers, partners, distributors and staff for having made 2014 a superb year for Plank and we’re  looking forward to the new challenges and opportunities that 2015 brings.

High quality architecture meets high quality interior. Plank was used for the residential project Mirror Houses, which consist of two holiday home units, set in the marvelous surroundings of the South Tyrolean Dolomites. The foldable MIURA table is matching perfectly with either MONZA armchairs or DOTY chairs as dining table for the inside and can also be used outdoors with MYTO chairs on the terrace or in the garden. The three-leg structure provides stability even on irregular floors. The folding mechanism ensures space saving and comfortable storage.
